Alternative Sources of Energy

With the ever rising prices of fossil fuels like and not to mention its depleting sources, one has to strongly consider using alternative sources of energy to consume. Not only will it prove to be cheaper, it is already proven to help save the planet Earth. Here are a few of the energy source alternates.

Wind as an energy source

Wind is technically defined as moving air, and motion is a form of energy. Wind, or its movement, is harvested through the use of wind turbines. These turbines then transform that form of energy into useful forms like electricity. The building and setting up of turbines are quite expensive processes but once it is operational the raw material for energy production is virtually free. As what they usually say nowadays, nothing is free anymore except air. Or in this case, wind.

Energy from water

Water energy is probably one of the oldest alternative sources of energy. Harvesting energy from the power of moving water is essentially similar to wind energy. However, since water is obviously heavier than air, a far less amount or volume of water is needed to generate the same amount of energy than wind energy. The downside though is that it is a whole lot more expensive in the making. Energy from water is usually harvested through the building of dams or by utilizing energy from falling water, or what you know as waterfalls.

Power from the sun

Solar power, or energy harvested from the heat or light of the sun, is the most popular form of alternate energy source. Power is harvested with the use of solar panels. This technology has been so popular and rampant that prices have lowered dramatically. The market today is saturated with nifty gadgetry engaged in harvesting solar power, from mobile phone and laptop chargers to water heaters. Solar panels have in fact become a household name as popular as television sets. The latest  and most popular is solar generator power.

Geothermal energy

Although this has been producing energy almost as long as fossil fuels have been harnessed to do the job, this does not harm the planet nor does the source deplete. Literally translated geothermal means heat of the earth. Harvesting plants drill holes into the ground deep enough to reach the core of the earth where the temperature is so high that the steam formed gushes out of the holes with full force. Or to save on time, energy and money, power plants simply use naturally occurring holes.

Biofuel

A relatively new alternate source is from biofuel. It involves serious amounts of research and resources. Biofuel comes in all three phases of matter; liquid biofuel like bioethanol, bioalcohol and biodiesel. Solid biomass like animal manure and solid garbage wastes. Biofuel also comes in the gaseous form of biogas. Generally, the three types are termed as biofuels because they are most commonly used directly as combustible fuels, similar to how fossil fuels are burned to produce energy but with little or no accompanying pollutants.

If you want to start saving money and saving the Earth at the same time, then opting to invest and utilize alternative sources of energy is strongly recommended for you; for everyone.
